Girl Walks Into A Bar connects a group of apparent strangers over one night across ten bars throughout Los Angeles. A dentist teams up with a feisty would-be assassin to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife. Once he makes a play for the assassin’s payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a crosstown journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong clubs scattered across Los Angeles. By turns funny and heartbreaking, this sharp-witted comedy features ten interconnected vignettes that build to a revealing finish.

TRIVIA

• Inspired by a scene from Elektra Luxx.

• Shot in eleven days, in March 2010, with a Canon 7D camera.

• Quoted in an official press release, Gutiérrez revealed, “We want to prove that Web distribution is a viable medium for theatrical quality movies which rely on story, characters and dialogue as opposed to special effects. For many reasons the theatrical indie landscape has changed drastically in the last few years, leaving many potential breakout hits without an audience. We are excited to break the rules of feature films by letting people watch our movie for free online.”

• Sebastian Gutierrez claimed at the South by Southwest Film Festival premiere of Elektra Luxx that Girl Walks Into A Bar is the first feature length film with a cast of notable stars made expressly for the Internet.

• Chris Pandolfi from Popzara praised Gutierrez’s dialogue, saying “those he casts should consider themselves lucky, for they have been given an opportunity so few directors give nowadays: To be in an intelligent, witty movie that relies less on physicality and more on the power of speech.”

QUOTES

Henry: You’re the kind of woman I bet looks great naked.

Henry: You have this… intangible quality.
Francine Driver: Try harder.
Henry: I’m cursed by the blossoming knowledge of my feminine ideal & she looks suspiciously like you.
Francine Driver: That’s not bad.
Henry: It’s pretty good, you mean. Not a total waste.
Francine Driver: How about the truth.
Henry: The truth is you’re not my usual type.
Francine Driver: What’s your usual type?
Henry: Gaunt, fashionable and dumb, with a big square Appalachian ass and an obsession with country music.
Francine Driver: Jesus.
Henry: Will you at least consider it?
Francine Driver: [sighs, rips up photo. Sighs. Smiles. Grins]

Nick: I was under the impression a bar was like a church. A place where a man can be left alone to think in peace.

Sam Salazar: You are unique. There are, I’m sure, uncommon things that you are particularly good at. Play to your strong suits, shine. Don’t concentrate on things other people have told you you’re no good at. Relish the talents you have. And always, always surround yourself with people that appreciate you.

June: Is it true that Mexican men love cunnilingus?
