Aaron Tveit recently wrapped production on an original, independent baseball film entitled Undrafted. Written and directed by Joe Mazzello (“The Pacific” and, yes, Tim from Jurassic Park), the upcoming film focuses on aspiring baseball player John “Maz” Mazetti, who has a life-changing epiphany following his discovery that he was not drafted onto a professional team. It is based on the true story of Mazzello’s brother, a collegiate baseball star who was overlooked for a Major League Baseball draft.
Aaron is the star in Undrafted, taking the lead role of Maz. “Gossip Girl” actor Chace Crawford is playing Arthur Barone and also serving as the executive producer. Matt Barr, Tyler Hoechlin, Philip Winchester, Billy Gardell, James Belushi, and Aaron’s current “Graceland” co-star Manny Montana are also in the film. This is the directorial debut for Joe Mazzello, who has a degree from USC’s film production program.
When asked about the film at the Big Fish Broadway opening night after-party, Aaron told Broadway.com, “It’s a combination of the two things I like to do: play baseball and act.” There is currently no set release date.
