As music festivals grow in popularity, it made sense to Darren Criss (of “Glee” fame) to put together an event that honors show tunes. Inspired by Coachella, he has arranged a new platform for Broadway performers to celebrate their love of songs from the stage, screen, and beyond. “Enter Elsie,” he says.

On September 27th, New York’s JBL LIVE at Pier 97 will host the first ever Elsie Fest, a one-day outdoor concert featuring musical theater stars. Aaron Tveit will join Darren Criss at the festival, along with Lea Salonga, Leslie Odom, Jr., Laura Osnes, Seth Rudetsky, and StarKid. The event will run from 2-9PM, with each guest having a set lasting approximately 30 minutes.

“Musical theater has been going through a wonderful shift in the past few years, from the type of work that’s being produced to the way it’s being consumed by the public,” said Criss – an executive producer for the festival – in a statement. “It’s more than showtunes on Broadway; it’s songs from film, TV, and YouTube. Since the rules were already changing, I figured, why not shake up people’s ideas of where to watch the performers they love.”

Along with the announced acts, there will also be surprise guests in store for those attending. In between sets, fans will be encouraged to stop by Marie’s Crisis beer garden, where pianists will be taking song requests and holding “massive singalongs.” Food trucks will be on hand as dining options.

Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public August 21st at 10AM (ET) through Ticketmaster; presales for Citi Cardmembers start as early as tomorrow, August 19th. Those interested can opt for $49 general admission tickets, or splurge on a $250 VIP package which includes reserved seating closer to the stage and a VIP seating laminate signed by Darren Criss. There will also Meet & Greet opportunities, which have yet to be announced. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
