At Signature Theater, Aaron Tveit attended the off-Broadway opening night for Daphne’s Dive on Sunday, May 15th. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, the new play stars Samira Wiley (“Orange Is the New Black”) and explores the relationship between her character and the barroom patrons she grew up with. Thomas Kail – who directed “Grease: Live” – is at the helm of this production as well. If you’re interested in attending, you can purchase tickets (starting at $25) at Signature Theater’s website; the play’s run has been extended to June 12th.
The first set of promotional pictures for CBS’s “BrainDead” have just been released! Courtesy of Mashable, you can now find eight new photos in the gallery that feature the cast in front of an American flag and spraying bug repellent. Well, everyone has a can… except for Aaron Tveit’s character, Gareth. Anyone else concerned? Or do you think it was just a creative decision for the shoot? We may just have to wait to find out when “BrainDead” airs on June 13th.
After Aaron Tveit posted about a special rehearsal on Friday, fans were buzzing about a Next To Normal reunion that was to take place on May 2nd. As part of Second Stage’s 37th Anniversary Gala, N2N producer David Stone (who also handles Wicked) was to be honored. “[David] made Next To Normal possible with his belief in this show,” Aaron stated on Instagram.
Alongside Alice Ripley and J. Robert (“Bobby”) Spencer, Aaron joined the stage to revisit the powerful Next To Normal number, “You Don’t Know/I Am The One.” (Sadly, no video of this performance from the event has surfaced.) Original cast members Jennifer Damiano and Adam Chanler-Berat were also in attendance, happily joining for a N2N family reunion — minus Louis Hobson, who was notably missed by his co-stars.
Following a sold-out run in Washington D.C., the new musical Dear Evan Hansen had its off-Broadway opening at Second Stage theater on Sunday, May 1st. A day before his scheduled stint at the venue, Aaron Tveit appeared at the opening to lend his support. “What an incredibly beautiful, emotional show,” he stated on Instagram. “The cast is beyond stellar top to bottom.”
Directed by Next To Normal‘s Michael Greif with a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the production has been heralded by critics as being “entertainingly smart and radiating charm, wit, and humor.” It seems to be loved by audiences, too: the New York run is also sold out! However, Second Stage notes that a limited number of General Admission tickets – as well as tickets reserved for youths (at $30) – are available at the box office an hour before curtain. If you’re in the area, it might be worth stopping by to catch the original musical “for the outsider in us all.”
On April 4th, MCC Theater hosted the 2016 Miscast gala, featuring numerous Broadway stars performing songs from roles in which they would never be cast. This year, Lea Salonga, Tina Fey, Tituss Burgess, and many others were in on hand to both woo and entertain those lucky enough to attend.
As previously announced, Aaron Tveit was also part of this year’s lineup, which marked his third Miscast appearance to date. This time, he performed a heart-wrenching rendition of “As Long As He Needs Me” from Oliver!; you can watch a professionally shot video of it on MCC Theater’s YouTube. His second song of the night – RENT‘s “Take Me Or Leave Me” – was a show-stopping duet with Gavin Creel. Paul Wontorek of Broadway.com reported that video of the performance had half a million views just one day after it was uploaded! Check it out below:

On Thursday, January 21st, Aaron Tveit appeared on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” for the second time. Alongside the iconic Laurie Metcalf, he joined host Andy Cohen to share gossip (or not) and play a few games. Despite some prodding, Aaron – and Laurie – remained true professionals, speaking well of their co-stars even with a drinking game in play. You can find images from their appearance in the gallery, or view clips from the show and its after-party at Bravo’s official website.
The cast of “Grease: Live” stopped by the AOL studios in New York this afternoon, on January 18th. Aaron Tveit was joined by costars Julianne Hough, Carlos PenaVega, and Vanessa Hudgens to talk to AOL BUILD about their ambitious live staging of “Grease” on Fox. It’s a very insightful interview, with the cast clearly good friends as they praise one another and excitedly talk about their updated version of a beloved musical. Check out the video interview below, or head to AOL Build’s website to watch in HD.
Yesterday (January 15th), the Television Critics Association hosted the Fox portion of their promo tour at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California. “Grease: Live” had their own panel to talk about the much buzzed about live adaptation, with Aaron Tveit and his fellow cast-mates in attendance. Although there is no video of the panel (will update if this changes), there are photos from the event in the gallery. You can also find pics from the Fox-hosted “All-Star” after-party in the gallery as well.
